Béatrice Jacques, « Making a difference in cervical cancer prevention: the role of the midwives in France », HAL-SHS : sociologie, ID : 10670/1.iva8hh
Objectives: We would like to study how midwives are entering the field of cervical cancer screening under the impetus of the State and are setting up action plans to strengthen and broaden recognition of the profession. Methods: We surveyed two departments (which offer a different organization of screening), in which we made numerous observations and interviewed 98 health professionals and patients. Results and conclusion: We will first show how the professional group saw an expansion of skills as an opportunity to gain legitimacy. Then, we will highlight how midwives have clearly identified the "weaknesses" of the medical offer in gynaecology in order to build up a clientele. Finally, we will highlight the difficulties that professionals may encounter in working collaboratively with medical gynaecologists, while showing how a conflict of territory is replayed.
