Paola Marrati, « Political Emotions. Stanley Cavell on Democracy », Revue internationale de philosophie, ID : 10670/1.iws2mq
Reclaiming the political significance of the pursuit of happiness for any democratic society is one of Cavell’s most original contributions to contemporary moral and political philosophy. But what is democracy if it cannot survive without our singular pursuits of happiness ? This article explores Cavell’s understanding of democracy through an analysis of his essays on J.S. Mill and J. Rawls that bring together his critical notion of the conversation of justice on the one hand, and his descriptions of the political implications of the life of emotions in contemporary democratic societies.
