Three objectives underpin this article. Firstly to bring some clarification to the idea of «sect», quite far from the generally accepted meaning. The reasons which can explain why both the médias and political actors maintain a négative a priori towards this phenomenon constitute the second point. The third objective is to see what are the reasons which attract some of our contemporaries towards thèse sects and «new religious movements» which are so heavily criticized.

Trois objectifs sous-tendent cet article. D s'agit tout d'abord d'apporter quelques éclaircissements sur le concept de «sectes», loin de l'acception courante. Les raisons susceptibles d'expliquer pourquoi tant les médias que l'acteur politique entretiennent un a priori négatif sur ce phénomène constituent l'objet d'un deuxième propos. Quant au troisième, il s'interroge sur les raisons qui attirent certains de nos contemporains vers ces sectes et «nouveaux mouvements religieux» tant décriés.
