Laure Monin-Cournil, « Le retour des prisonniers de guerre du CEFEO après Diên Biên Phu », Revue Historique des Armées, ID : 10670/1.jka8l9
Prisoners of war in Indochina, especially those captured at Dien Bien Phu, were sent back to the Metropole or to their original units after their release. Managing their return became an issue for the military authorities in Indochina, who were the first to meet them after their liberation. Despite similarities, the returns were managed differently depending on the ex-prisoners’ origins, sometimes almost case by case. Other factors included the international context of the time, tensions between East and West, as well as the uprisings in Algeria. Though the return of French troops might seem easier at first glance, North African or Eastern European soldiers represented highly particular cases.
