À partir de la présentation clinique d’une patiente atteinte d’une hémopathie maligne, la temporalité en médecine et la transmission psychique sont abordées selon les logiques différentes qui structurent le temps psychique et le temps médical. Face à la sidération induite par la réalité médicale, la transmission apparaît alors en lien avec ce qui peut réinscrire le sujet dans le temps et la logique du désir. Cela dépasse alors la seule dimension du besoin où la maladie a tendance à le réduire. À travers la situation clinique présentée, création et procréation sont alors pensées comme ce qui soutient, chez le sujet, la possibilité de dépasser dans et par le symbolique ce qui se présente comme impasse dans le réel.

A Time for Medicine and a Time for the Mind – Creation and Procreation in the Case of a Female Patient with a Haematological Malignancy. This article looks at the case of a female patient suffering from a haematological malignancy and explores the notion of temporality in medicine and psychical transmission in the light of the opposing logics structuring the notion of time in medicine and time for the mind. When faced with the shock of medical reality, transmission is one of the sole means of repositioning the individual within the framework of time and the logic of his or her desire. This by far surpasses the dimension of need to which illness is so frequently reduced. The clinical case discussed shows how creation and procreation are seen by the subject as ways of sustaining a sense of possibility and of using the symbolic register to reach beyond what appears to be a dead end in the real.
