With special attention to the activities of review and rewriting, this paper presents some observations on the acquisition of communicative competence in writing by a group of students from a two-course Portuguese undergraduate program at the University of Lille in France. The project-based learning methodology is employed to address the broad diversity of the context in question and the considerable heterogeneity of the group with which the study is being conducted. This is achieved through a protocol that stipulates the development of individual projects by students throughout the academic semester.
