Julien Paris, « Achievements and Setbacks of Turkish TV Series on the Regional Market: An Influence Questioned », Hérodote, ID : 10670/1.kadm9h
The international success of Turkish TV series which are barely a decade old is currently experiencing a turning point: the commercial and audience success have been followed by varied reactions from neighboring countries. By first using the case of Turkish soap operas broadcast in Greece and their supposed beneficial effects on Turkish “soft power” (1), this paper aims to analyze the strengths and the mechanisms used by the audiovisual fictions to penetrate a regional market with specific cultural contents (2), and finally highlight the fact that the values portrayed in the series—which are also their strengths—are the root cause of the criticisms against Turkey on the regional diplomatic scene on many fronts and at different levels (3).
