"In this article we analyze the negative response against migrants as it relates to VHI/AIDS in the MexicoGuatemala border. A transversal study within a border communitywas undertaken in 2001. From the communitys perspective, AIDS «comes fromabroad» and it is considered that different groups of mobile population are their diffusers. For the community residents, the presence of AIDS is explained by the interrelationshipamong members of the community and members of the different mobilegroups. AIDS has become an additional element that contributes to increase attitudesof refusal against undocumented migrant groups. Reducing stigmatism and refusalcan favor the exit of VHI/AIDS preventive actions in border areas"
