Gisela Cardoso Teixeira, « The journalistic frames of the Syrian Civil War: the case of Brazilian news websites G1 and Uol », HAL-SHS : sciences de l'information, de la communication et des bibliothèques, ID : 10670/1.kbm8sd
This article aims to analyze the frames of the Syrian Civil War in some of the news websitesmost accessed by the Brazilian public. In other words, the study intends to observe whichaspects that constitute the events of conflicts in Syria were selected and emphasized by the analyzed medias, in the construction of narratives about the Syrian Civil War as a media event. For this, 56 news were collected from the websites G1 and Uol Notícias, referring to twospecific events of the conflict in Syria: the western bombing on April 14, 2018, and theoffensives in northwestern Syria, between April and August 2019. For achieving the purposesthat guided this analysis, a theoretical-methodological dialogue was carried out between theframe analysis' notions developed by Goffman (1974), Gitlin (1980), Porto (2002) andEmediato (2011), and some concepts about aspects of journalistic specialization in armedconflicts, according to Charaudeau (2012) and Carvalho (2013). In this way, it was possible toidentify three types of framing: a framing aimed at the war offensive itself, in which the³characters of war´ (the villain, the savior hero and the victims) were designated, according toa dramatizing script (Charaudeau, 2012); the frame referring to the political complexity of thewar on the world stage, and a humanitarian frame, which leads the reader's gaze to thevictims of the conflict.
