Sylvie Bauer, « « There is no God and we are his prophets » : le spectre du sens dans The Road, de Cormac McCarthy », Revue française d’études américaines, ID : 10670/1.klxnne
The Road, by Cormac McCarthy, provides the reader with a post-Apocalyptic landscape in which words no longer correspond to any reality whatsoever. The anonymous father and son traveling along the road are akin to godless prophets bound to keep on yet with no hope for a future. This article aims at analyzing the way meaning emerges in this wasteland, in spite of the inadequacy of language and of the seeming lack of transcendence.
