"In Madrid, mu nicipal markets –former elements which configured the neighborhood and its social relations– are now going through a process of ongoing transformation due to public policies driven by new investors, and to the de velopment of gentrification processes in certain urban areas. Consequently, different market models are in conflict. Caught in the logic of “renew or perish”, the renovation of the markets represents a struggle for urban space, expressed in the dichotomy of the right to the city over the right of consumption."
