The north of the county of Hainaut possessed a set of quarries exploiting the blue stone, said also black stone, including the stone of Tournai or Antoing, the stone of Ath and the stone of Écaussinnes. If the stone of Tournai was exported from the XIIth century, the accountings of the urbanconstruction works of the XIVth and XVth centuries reveal more exactly the currents of marketing of these various productions in the cities of the South of the county of Hainaut (Valenciennes, Quesnoy, Bouchain) or of walloon Flanders. If the stone of Tournai, then Antoing, will dominate the market till the end of the XIVth century, at the time more limited also that of Ath, it is the stone of Écaussinnes that will be imperative afterward thanks to the dynamism of masters of quarry.
