Pozbawiona wiary w „tekstowy świat”, charakterystycznej dla paradygmatu poststrukturalistycznego, nowa humanistyka z jednej strony sięga po sprawczość, z drugiej zaś stara się znaleźć mosty ponad izolującymi ją od nauki podziałami odziedziczonymi po przełomie antypozytywistycznym. Szuka swojego miejsca w zespołach i laboratoriach, a zarazem w polityczności, dokonującej tymczasem wrogiego przejęcia jej narzędzi. Nowej humanistyce grozi bowiem zgoda na to, że jest zajęciem „darmozjadów”, albo przystąpienie do marketingu. Żeby znów uczyć krytycznej samowiedzy, musi więc otwierać „czarne skrzynki” teorii na praktykowanie i eksperymenty.

Having lost faith in the “textual world” – a faith characteristic of the post-structuralist paradigm – the new humanities reach for agency while simultaneously looking for bridges across the gap to science, inherited from the antipositivistic turn. The new humanities seek their place in teams and laboratories, but also in a political self-awareness that has been taking over its own tools. The danger is that that new humanities might accept becoming an occupation for freeloaders or become absorbed in marketing. To teach critical self-knowledge again, the new humanities must open the “black boxes” of theory to practice and experimentation.
