Etienne Dessoy et al., « A Model of a Rigid Community : Anne’s Father’s Family of Origin », Thérapie Familiale, ID : 10670/1.l3p50f
This article proposes a model of the rigid community or clan whose organizing core is a “hidden antagonism.” The family beliefs cluster the members around a joint project related to “appearing” and “having.” But a subsystem develops and reintroduces a difference in this monolith. This subsystem is based on elements related to “being” and “feeling,” but also to ambiance, spirituality, aesthetics, suffering, and pathology. This subsystem, called “hidden contestant,” dissimulated in the family’s “underground,” remains unknown but has as much power as the “dominant” subsystem to support the unity of the community. However, it uses radically different means to the dominant subsystem. Although each subsystem thinks it supports the system’s unity, it is their conjunction (in a hidden antagonism) that is the organizing principle of the clan.
