"The purpose of this work is to analyze the relationshipbetween leadership styles and effectiveness in small firms. Thework considers a sample of 126 top and medium level managersbased in small firms in the north of Chile. The results obtainedshow that the supportive leadership style is prominent. It wasalso found that the participative leadership style is present, butto a lesser extent, and that the instrumental leadership style isinfrequent. Supportive and participative leadership styles have apositive influence on effectiveness in small organizations. Instrumentalleadership has a negative influence on effectiveness insmall organizations."
