For Auguste Comte, the European idea could no longer enlighten or change the peoples’ march towards the final stage of Humanity which is positive state. Comte redefines Europe as the West, so that the European center, instead of being the headquarters of a global empire, became a spiritual home for the spreading of progress. This article highlights the sociological outline and the political components that distinguish the Western Republic, before focusing on the concrete measures that Comte had considered to establish Westernness and restore the unity of mankind, threatened by colonialism.

Pour Auguste Comte, l'idée européenne ne servait plus à éclairer ni à modifier la marche des peuples vers ce stade final de l'Humanité qu'est l'état positif.
