Mexico has an internationally recognized natural and cultural wealth, but this abundance of resources still has an unnoticed potential to generate economically active areas and harvesting systems. Simultaneously, the south of Mexico has the states with the highest rates of social marginality, while public policies are geared towards taking advantage of resources from a tourism perspective, rather than from the perspective of self-management and public space. Natural and cultural resources must be part of a human right. The great challenge of the XXI century is to generate, through responsible management, spaces which protect the identity and diversity as well as the biological and cultural aspects of territories that belong to all citizens
