L'appartenance de Scarponne-Dieulouard (Meurthe-et-Moselle) à la cité des Médiomatriques : réexamen des sources, nouvelle interprétation

Cet article s’est donné pour but de réexaminer chronologiquement la bibliographie ayant trait au rattachement administratif antique de l’agglomération secondaire de Scarponne (actuellement Dieulouard, Meurthe-et-Moselle). La création de fausses inscriptions au XVIIIe siècle a durablement nui aux générations de chercheurs. Pourtant, en considérant les inscritions, authentiques, de trois bornes milliaires, ainsi que leur localisation d’une part, et le rattachement, durant l’Ancien Régime, de Scarponne au diocèse de Metz d’autre part, on aboutit à la conclusion que Scarponne appartenait incontestablement à la cité des Médiomatriques.

This paper has the aim of the chronological re-examination of the bibliography related to the ancient administrative attachment of the secondary agglomeration of Scarponna (today Dieulouard, Meurthe-et-Moselle). The creation of false inscriptions in the 18th century negatively affected research for generations. However, consideration of three genuine milliary columns, their location, and the attachment of Scarponna during the Ancien Régime to the diocese of Metz led to the conclusion that Scarponna belonged indubitably to the civitas Mediomatricorum.

Ziel dieses Artikels ist es, die administrative Zugehörigkeit der ländlichen Siedlung von Scarponne (heute Dieulouard, Département Meurthe-et-Moselle) anhand der Bibliographie chronologisch zu untersuchen. Die Schaffung falscher Inschriften im 18. Jh. war Generationen von Forschern langfristig hinderlich. Doch, wenn man die authentischen Inschriften von drei Meilensteinen berücksichtigt, sowie einerseits deren Lokalisierung und andererseits die Zugehörigkeit von Scarponne im Ancien Régime zur Diözese Metz, dann kommt man zu dem Schluss, dass Scarponne eindeutig zur Civitas der Mediomatriker gehört hatte.
