The Gascon rolls are an interesting survey for the study of the English Gacogne especially in war times. We learn from the Rolls that the food supplying is very important for the castles (wine, ham, wheat...). They mention minimalist strength in peace times (about ten men), and hundreds of men in war times. They also give information about the individual weapons (with a predominance of the crossbow), and about the collective weapons such as the stone throwing machines (which are usually built by specialists working under the control of the «enginours») placed in arsenals such as the Ombrière in Bordeaux. The Rolls also tell about the important cost of the conflicts.

Les sources comptables (Rôles Gascons) permettent une exceptionnelle connaissance de la Gascogne anglaise, notamment en période de conflit. Elles indiquent que l'approvisionnement en vivres des châteaux est considérable (vin, froment, jambon...). Elles mentionnent des effectifs minimalistes en temps de paix (environ dix hommes), mais considérablement augmentés lors des troubles (plusieurs centaines d'individus). Elles citent l'armement individuel, avec une prédominance de l'arbalète, et l'armement collectif composé de machines de jet construites par des spécialistes sous la responsabilité des «enginours» et placées dans des arsenaux, tel celui de l'Ombrière à Bordeaux. Elles signalent enfin le coût important des conflits.
