Ruth Stawarz-Luginbühl, « Les annotations manuscrites dans quelques éditions humanistes des Tragédies de Sénèque (1513-1581) », Bulletin du bibliophile, ID : 10670/1.mjtl1c
This survey deals specifically with handwritten marginalia as found in humanist editions of Senecas’s tragedies. Out of a corpus of forty-four copies, we offer both an overall description and an attempt at typology. The second part of this article is more particularly devoted to a study of Hercules furens, a play that, in the whole, features the highest number of notes. An in-depth analysis reveals two types of reading: the first one, marked by some uniformity, centers on maxims and commonplaces; the second one, beyond the humanistic pedagogical frame, turns out to be less predictable, but could be the occasion for a more personal, intimate approach to the text.
