The Museo-Biblioteca de Ultramar (Overseas Museum and Library) was created in 1887, when the Exhibition of Philippines was celebrated in Madrid. The purpose of this institution was to disseminate the History, culture and products of overseas territories. From the beginning the museum had numerous objects and books, which gradually increased with time. The lack of control of librarians and archivists helped its dissolution. When it disappeared, the objects and books were transferred into other institutions: Museo de la América (Museum of America), Biblioteca Nacional (National Library of Spain) and Museo Arqueológico Nacional (National Archaeological Museum of Spain).
