From an anthropological point of view, three logics have accompanied the relationship between the body and psychiatry throughout history. Major at one time, they remain present as available minors. The philosophical body: Pinel and Pussin are empiricists who address the “concrete” as a totality accessible to moral treatment. The paradoxical body of hysterics sets up, according to Charcot, an enigmatic relationship to science, art, and religion, while invading politics. The political body is born, as an inescapable reality. Biopolitics manages the bodies of individuals, but the “illegitimate” pandemic undermines the happiness of the self manager. Since the Renaissance, art is the witness but also the instrument of this evolution.
