Although more than 50 names of magistrates are attested, complete or abridged, on silver and bronze coins of ApolloniaPontica, no extensive inquiry of these names was provided up to now, with the exception of silver tetradrachms, on whom thenumismatists concentrated their studies. After the making of the corpus of complete and abridged names, through a patientchecking of readings and attributions, the exploitation of this evidence confirms the strong Ionian features of the onomasticsof this Milesian foundation during the Classical period and at the beginning of the Hellenistic epoch. Very rare names, regionalnames and dialectal forms are analysed in parallel with the considerable dossier of funerary epigraphy known in the same WestPontic city; more corrections of readings and new names are published here.
