Protagoras: Imposture and Impiety in the Athenian Democracy (Eupolis, fr. 157 K-A) In this article I will discuss mainly the fragment K-A 157 of Eupolis’ comedy Κόλακες (421 BC) to analyze the staging and characterization of Protagoras of Abdera, in order to describe the link between this sophist and the intellectual and political context in which he developed his intellectual activity in Athens. First, I will discuss two key terms in this characterization of Protagoras: the verb άλαζονεύεται and the adjective άλιτήριος. Then, I will review the discussion about the possible articulation of both fragments. Finally, I will examine the fragments studied in the articulation of ‘the political’ around the figure of Protagoras in this comedy.

Protagoras : imposture et impiété dans la démocratie athénienne (Eupolis, fr. 157 K-A) Dans cet article, j’aborderai principalement le fragment 157 K-A de la comédie Κόλακες (421 avant J.-C.) d’Eupolis. Il s’agira, à travers la mise en scène et le portrait de Protagoras d’Abdère, de saisir les liens qui existaient entre le développement de l’activité intellectuelle du sophiste et le contexte intellectuel et politique à Athènes. En premier lieu, j’analyserai deux mots clefs qui caractérisent Protagoras : le verbe άλαζονεύεται et l’adjectif άλιτήριος. Ensuite, je discuterai les débats sur l’éventuelle articulation des deux fragments. Enfin, j’analyserai, dans les fragments retenus, l’articulation du “politique” pour ce qui concerne le portrait de Protagoras dans cette comédie.

En este artículo abordaré principalmente el fragmento 157 K-A de la comedia Κόλακες (421 a.C.) de Éupolis para analizar de la puesta en escena y caracterización de Protagoras de Abdera, con el objetivo de pensar los vínculos entre este sofista y el contexto intelectual y político en el que desarrolló su actividad intelectual en Atenas. En primer lugar, analizaré dos términos clave en esta caracterización de Protágoras: el verbo άλαζονεύεται y el adjetivo άλιτήριος. Luego, revisaré la discusión respecto de la posible articulación de ambos fragmentos. Finalmente, analizaré en los fragmentos estudiados la articulación de ‘lo político' en torno a la figura de Protágoras en dicha comedia.
