Résumé
"This article analyzes the systematic yet inadvertent ways in which the state has historically excluded Indians from participation in the Peruvian nation. It also illustrates the struggles indigenous peasants of Paucartambo specifically from the ayllu of Ninamarka- which have contested such exclusions. In this sense, the article depicts the struggles against the local landowner in the decade that preceded the Agrarian Reform, and the demands for official education. The conclusion presents the conundrum of Indianness in Peru: Systematic racial-cultural exclusion has led Indians to shed their condition of such by becoming literate, an thus non-Indians."
