C. S. Galina et al., « The impact of the international foundation for science (IFS) funding on Latin American research in animal health and production », Interciencia, ID : 10670/1.n7o56g
"A three-part study was carried out to evaluate the characteristicsand impact of the International Foundation for Science(IFS) funding in Latin America between 1975 and 1997. In thefirst part analysis of the grants awarded by the IFS showed thatsupport peaked in 1990. Countries most frequently favored wereMexico and Argentina with animal diseases and nutrition beingthe research areas most commonly funded. A second part of thestudy in which present and ex-IFS grantees were asked to answera questionnaire on their total research publications revealed that they published predominantly in peer reviewed journalsfrom their home countries. A third approach involved asearch in the international database Science Citation Index toidentify the grantees publications published in the mainstreamresearch literature. Few publications were retrieved suggesting areduced international presence. These findings are discussed inrelation to the objectives of the IFS program and the characteristicsof scientific research in agricultural disciplines in LatinAmerica."
