Beate Eder-Jordan et al., « Œuvres littéraires et artistiques des Tsiganes : Une critique interne est-elle possible ? », Études Tsiganes, ID : 10670/1.n8ya02
In this paper the question is discussed whether Roma criticize their own people in their literature and art and why it is so difficult for them to broach such topics. Several authors fear that writing about negative aspects will reinforce existing stereotypes. Some authors and artists who are critical in their works are no longer integrated in their Roma communities.Criticism from within in literature and art can be interpreted as an act of trust that the writers and artists have in their Roma and non-Roma audiences. The artists are confident that their readers and viewers can cope with the fact that such problematic aspects of living together as the position of women and the use of violence within the Roma communities are dealt with. Some writers and artists, however, face harsh attacks from members of their communities for choosing these topics in their texts and their paintings. The examples given are taken from works by the following writers and artists: Ilona Lacková (Czech Republic, Slovakia), Matéo Maximoff (France), Aladin Sejdi? (Italy, Germany), Kiba Lumberg (Finland), Ceija Stojka (Austria) and Ilija Jovanovi? (Serbia, Austria
