This article explores the current situation of Latin American studies in Austria, and the position they have within the country s university and scientific research system. On the basis of that analysis, conclusions are drawn about the main challenges that Austrian Latin Americanism faces, and the authors outline some perspectives on the future of this academic field.

[ES] El presente artículo da cuenta de la situación actual de los estudios latinoamericanistas en Austria, la posición que ocupan en la universidad y en el sistema de investigación científica de ese país. A partir de ese análisis se derivan conclusiones acerca de los principales desafíos a los que se enfrenta el latinoamericanismo austríaco y se perfila una serie de perspectivas de futuro para este ámbito académico.
