Nicole Haumont: Wohnung und strukturelle Modelle. Die Studie der Bedurfnisse und Wunsche hinsichtlich der Wohnung zeigt eine sehr starke Anhanglichkeit der franzosischen Bevolkerung an das individuelle Haus, und das sogar bei Bewohnern der grossen Hauserkomplexe, die ihre Wohnverhältnisse gut finden. Das kommt wahrscheinlich daher, dass die den Einrichtungen geltende Befriedigung nicht immer mit der Verwirklichung allgemeiner Wúnsche zusammenstimmt, welche der franzosischen Gesellschaft eigen sind. Diese Wiinsche driicken den starken Einfluss aus, den kulturelle Modelle auf die Art wie das Kind und später der Erwachsene den Raum erlernt, ausiiben. Dank dieses Lernens eignet er sich seinen Wohnraum an, und zwar desto leichter als sich dieser Wohnraum besser den Grundbedurfnissen anpassen kann. Dieses trifft im allgemeinen fur die individuelle Wohnung zu, was die verbreitete Anhänglichkeit der Franzosen daran teilweise erklärt. Diese Modelle liefern aber nur einen Rahmen, innerhalb dessen man mehrere, den verschiedenen sozialen Klassen entsprechende Abwandlungen antrifft. Im Falle wich- tiger Veranderungen z.B. in einem sich verstadternden Staat tritt diese Abwandlungsfähigkeit ins Spiel. Die Rolle des Baumeisters und des Stadteplaners besteht dann darin, die Wohnung den wechselnden Lebensweisen anzupassen, indem er die kulturellen Modelle dieser Gesellschaft in Betracht zieht.

Изучение потребностей и стремлений французского населения в области жилища показывает сильную тягу к индивидуальному дому, даже среди жителей больших « соединений », которые при этим считают, что они живут в хороших жилищных условиях. Причина этого явления несомненно заключается в том, что удовлетворение, которое им дает жилищный комфорт не всегда покрывает более общие потребности французского населения. Эти стремления отражают сильное влияние « культурных прототипов » (моделей). Эти « культурные модели » показывают, каким образом ребенок, потом взрослый человек познает свое жилище; это ознакомление позволяет ему впоследствии тем легче освоить жилищные условия, чем лучше они будут приспособлены к его основным потребностям. В большинство случаев, этому условию удовлетворяет индивидуальный дом, чем отчасти объясняется предпочтение большинства французов в этом отношении. Следует, однако, заметить, что в рамках « культурных прототипов » существует множество вариантов социальных группировок, что, разумеется, отражается на значительных изменениях происходящих, например, в результате урбанизации. В этих случаях архитектору и урбанисту надлежить приспособить жилищные условия к изменениям быта, принимая во внимание « культурный прототип » общества, в котором они работают.
Nicole Haumont : Housing and cultural patterns. The study of the needs and aspirations of the French population relating to housing shows how strong the attachment is to the individual dwelling ; this is true, even for the inhabitants of large housing units, who consider themselves well housed. This situation is without doubt due to the fact that the satisfaction derived from good housing conditions, does not always coincide with the realization of more general aspirations which are characteristic of French society. These aspirations express the great influence of cultural patterns ruling the way in which the child, and later the adult, learns about his home area. This learning process permits adjustments which later will be easier if these adaptations respond to fundamental needs. This is in general, the case of the individual dwelling and it partially explains, the greater attachment expressed in France for this type of dwelling. — These patterns, however, are but a framework within which numerous variations are observed, according to social groups. This possibility of variation becomes evident when important changes come about with the process of urbanization in a given country. The role of the architect and the town planner is to adapt the dwelling to the transformation in the way of life ; the cultural patterns of the society in question, should also be considered.

El estudio de las necesidades y de las aspiraciones de la poblacion francesa en materia de alojamiento enseña un fuerte apego a la case individual, hasta para los habitantes de los extensos caserones que piensan, a pesar de todo, que están bien alej ados. Esto proviene ciertamente del hecho que la satisfaction que da el equipo de la vivienda no coincide siempre con la realization de aspiraciones más générales que son caracteristicas de la sociedad francesa. Tales aspiraciones traducen la gran influencia de los modelos culturales que dirigen la manera con la cual el nifio, y luego el adulto conciben el espacio habitable, ese aprendizaje le da una apropiación que sera, más tarde, tanto más facil, cuanto que este espacio habitable podra adaptarse a esas necesidades fundamentales. En general, es el caso del alojamiento individual y eso explica en parte el apego mayoritario por el que se nota en Francia. — Sin embargo esos modelos constituyen solo un cuadro dentro del cual se observan numerosas variaciones según los grupos sociales. Esa posibilidad de variación acontece cuando se producen cambios importantes como es el caso de un pais que va urbanizandose. El papel del arquitecto y del urbanista es de adaptar la habitación a las transformaciones de los modos de vida, teniendo en cuenta los modelos culturales de la sociedad en la cual obran.
