Can we credit human activities consisting of knowing, thinking, imagining, but also imagining and inventing with a real existence? If this is the case, this form of existence would be characteristic of Man, because it is not found in any animal at this stage of development. Granting a reality to these activities is obviously opposed to the various behaviors (philosophical, psychological, neurobiological) which deny them and want to stick to the behaviors. Then comes the difficult problem of designating what produces these particular abilities. We will make a proposal on this.

Peut-on créditer d'une existence véritable les activités humaines consistant à connaître, penser, se représenter, mais aussi à imaginer et à inventer ? Si c'est le cas, cette forme d'existence constituerait le propre de l'Homme, car on ne la trouve chez aucun animal à ce degré de développement. Accorder une réalité à ces activités s’oppose évidemment aux divers behaviorismes (philosophique, psychologique, neurobiologique) qui les nient et veulent s’en tenir aux comportements. Vient ensuite le problème délicat de désigner ce qui produit ces capacités particulières. Nous ferons une proposition à ce sujet.
