Art, science et psychanalyse : trois modes de relation à l’impossible

Art, science et psychanalyse convergent par le fait de vouloir saisir ce qui toujours les dépasse, pour aller au-delà de l’impossible sur lequel chacun des ces domaines vient à buter. C’est ainsi qu’art, science et psychanalyse se constituent comme trois modes différents de relation à l’impossible. Cette butée sur l’impossible facilite paradoxalement leur rencontre, les ouvrant à de nouvelles explorations. Reste à inventer une méthode qui leur permette de s’enseigner réciproquement, selon un rapport de nécessité, condition d’une possible articulation : la psychanalyse joue un rôle entre art et science, en proposant un maniement nouveau de l’impossible auquel leurs explorations les confronte.

Art, science and psychoanalysis: three ways of relating to the impossibleA common denominator between art, science and psychoanalysis is their attempt to grasp what is always out of reach, to seek the impossible in each of these fields. Art, science and psychoanalysis therefore represent three different ways of rela ting to the impossible. Yet paradoxically, it is by reaching for the impossible that the three converge as they open up new horizons for exploration. But what needs to be invented is a method to enable mutual teaching, via the necessity that alone can guarantee reciprocity : psychoanalysis has a role to play between art and science, by proposing new ways of handling the impossible they are confronted with in their explorations.
