Avec l’émergence du miracle économique chinois, les Hidden Champions (HCs) en Chine ont attiré l’attention des universitaires. Mais en raison de définitions différentes, il n’y a pas de recherche systématique sur les Hidden Champions chinois. Avec le développement, la Chine est sur le point de modifier et d’améliorer sa structure économique, guidée par l’innovation. Il est nécessaire d’analyser l’innovation technologique des HCs chinois afin de maintenir une croissance continue. Cet article sélectionne 37 PME de pointe en Chine comme échantillon pour analyser la manière dont elles entreprennent des activités d’innovation puis choisit deux d’entre elles pour réaliser des études de cas. L’innovation technologique de 37 HCs chinois peut être divisée en trois types : l’innovation originale par les jeunes entreprises, la transformation et l’amélioration technologiques par les entreprises traditionnelles utilisant des méthodes intelligentes, et l’innovation indépendante par les nouveaux arrivants à partir de l’imitation. Les HCs chinois ont des technologies et des produits uniques, et sont des entreprises porteuses de missions et de visions entrepreneuriales dans l’industrie manufacturière.

With the emergence of the Chinese economic miracle, the hidden champions (HCs) in China have attracted the attention of academics. However, in part due to different definitions of the concept, there is a lack of systematic research on China’s HCs. As it continues to develop, China is modifying and upgrading its economic structure which is increasingly driven by innovation and understanding the technological innovation of China’s HCs is important to appreciate the country’s capacity to maintain its growth trajectory. This paper selects thirty-seven HCs in China as a representative sample and analyses how they undertake innovation activities. Two companies are examined in more detail as case studies. The technological innovation of the sample of Chinese HCs is divided into three types. The first type consists of original innovation by start-up companies and the second of technological transformation and upgrading by traditional companies using intelligent methods. The final type of technological innovation results from the move from imitation to independent innovation by new entrants. China’s HCs are found to have unique technologies and products, as well as specific corporate missions and visions for the future development of manufacturing industry.
