En concordance avec la constatation de Abrikosov : "Anchored statoblasts (sessoblasts) depend greatly on the form of the tubelets in which they are anchored and for this reason they do not have a characteristic form...", qui exprime l'opinion plus ou moins générale, jusqu'ici les sessoblastes ont été plus ou moins négligés en ce qui concerne la détermination des Bryozoaires dulçaquicoles tandis que l'importance des flottoblastes a été surestimée. Ce qu'on trouve dans la littérature concernant la structure des sessoblastes, ce n'est que quelques indications de quelques espèces bien connues, et on n'y trouve presque aucune indication des structures de la partie basale ou des dispositifs adhésifs. En général, les figures ne montrent que la vue frontale. Mais, dans bon nombre de sessoblastes, les parties frontales et (ou) basales offrent des structures bien spécifiques, et particulièrement les dispositifs adhésifs. Pour un bon examen, il est indispensable de chauffer les sessoblastes dans de l'alcali de potasse pendant quelques minutes pour être à même de les diviser en moitiés ou en quarts. Puisque les Lophopodidae ne possèdent pas de sessoblastes, il ne s'agira dans cette étude que des Fredericellidae et des Plumatellidae, exception faite du genre Hyalinella dont on convient, jusqu'à nouvel ordre, qu'il ne possède pas de sessoblastes non plus. À l'avenir, il ne sera pas possible de traiter des Bryozoaires dulçaquicoles sans en décrire et illustrer soigneusement aussi les sessoblastes.
