« Images from Belfast: otherness and transformation of a European city »

Résumé En

Since the Independance of Irish Republic, Belfast is affected by very violent clashes and attacks. The Good Friday Agreement in 1998 marked a certain appeasement. However the popular quarters are still a city marked by inter-community conflicts with a very important presence of the image in the public space with paintings and « murals ». Since 2015, a new urban project begin and will use the image for an operation of "reimaging" for "urban regeneration". Belfast's post-conflict re-imaging put the Titanic museum at the heart of its project : a new Museum about the construction of the Titanic from 1909 to 1912 in Belfast. The talk propose to analyze how the image is used to transform the perception of a city and how photographic approach could help to make visible the transformation of a city.
