Ange Pambou, « Prises, Déprises, Méprises, Reprises : Le devenir-littéral de la métaphore dans les nouvelles de Grace Paley », Journal of the Short Story in English, ID : 10670/1.ojnnrn
From the erosion of the metaphor’s conditions of meaning to the pure coincidence of the figurative and non-figurative, a host of formal processes of de-metaphorisation take place in Grace Paley’s short-stories, right at the core of the space held open between the author’s stated intent not to produce narratives with meaning beyond meaning and the constraints of a two-level order of significance proper to any metaphorical utterance, two incompatible demands at the intersection of which stands the text.
