We propose a reflection on Eros courses in José Riço Direitinho’s novel O escuro que te ilumina (2018), a fictional diary which weaves the portrait of a man walking, between light and shadow, looking for himself. Represented in the most diverse manifestations and experiences and oscillating between voyeurism and exhibitionism, Eros assumes here the ways of sensual desire, possession and pleasure to assert itself as an impulse that breaks down borders, in a permanent challenge to the current morality. The bodies outlined in the novel are presented as a transgressive force in a libertine Lisbon, conducive to chance encounters and replete with varied temptations. Guided by desire and lust, these same bodies are driven by excess and vertigo, which act as an antidote to anguish and a potentially overwhelming solitude.
