Ce texte part d’une discussion des thèses de M. Slote afin de problématiser le lien entre care, empathie et justice dans le cadre des éthiques du care. Sur cette base, il fait un état des lieux à la fois des débats sur l’articulation entre le care comme disposition et le care comme pratique et des débats sur l’articulation care-justice. L’enjeu est ici de montrer que ces débats se sont enfermés dans un horizon trop étroit en se structurant autour de l’alternative entre une approche qui oppose éthique du care et théorie libérale de la justice en tentant de développer une théorie compréhensive du care et une perspective qui consiste au contraire à faire de l’approche du care un élément susceptible d’être intégré à une théorie libérale de la justice qu’elle contribue à corriger, à compléter et donc à maintenir. Il nous semble qu’il est possible de refuser cette alternative tout en continuant à tenter d’articuler care et justice à condition de déplacer le débat sur cette articulation. Pour ce faire, et c’est la piste de recherche sur laquelle nous insistons à la fin du texte, il convient de creuser la réflexion sur les conditions d’une politisation du care et de reproblématiser la question des rapports care-justice, en cherchant à intégrer l’approche du care au sein non pas d’une théorie libérale de la justice, mais plutôt d’une théorie de la liberté politique et de la citoyenneté.

Care, empathy and justice This article starts from a discussion of the theses of Michael Slote, to study the connection between care, empathy and justice in the framework of the ethics of care. On this basis, we propose a survey of both the debates on the connection between care as disposition and care as practice, and the debates on the link between care and justice. We intend to show that these debates are confined within a narrow horizon which is structured around the choice between an approach that opposes ethics of care and liberal theory of justice while aiming to develop a comprehensive theory of care and a perspective that aims on the contrary to integrate the approach of care in the framework of a liberal theory of justice. We think it is possible to refuse this alternative and to articulate care and justice from another perspective : we emphasize the necessity to improve the reflection on the conditions of a politicization of care and to examine the link between care and justice while trying to integrate the approach of care into a theory of political freedom and citizenship (instead of focusing on her integration within a liberal theory of justice).
