After having examined how the Somavaṁśin kings presented themselves and used the alternation of the coronation names Mahāśivagupta/Mahābhavagupta, the present paper focuses on the Somavaṁśin kings' views of their predecessors. This study shows that Mahābhavagupta Janamejaya behaves as he was the founder of the dynasty in the land gifts issued by him and that references to this king by his two direct successors accentuate this status. However, the reference to this original ancestor is omitted thereafter, only to reappear once the succession battles have subsided, in the donations issued by Mahābhavagupta Uddyotakesarin, who reinforces in this manner his legitimacy.

Après avoir interrogé la manière dont les rois Somavaṁśin se présentaient eux-mêmes et usaient de l'alternance de noms de couronne Mahāśivagupta/Mahābhavagupta, la présente communication s'intéresse aux regards que portent les rois Somavaṁśin sur leurs prédécesseurs. Cette étude montre que Mahābhavagupta Janamejaya se pose en fondateur de la dynastie dans les dons qu'il a commandités et que les références à ce roi par ses deux successeurs directs ont renforcé ce statut. Cependant, la référence à cet ancêtre originel est omise par la suite pour ne réapparaître qu'une fois les batailles de succession apaisées, dans les donations commanditées par Mahābhavagupta Uddyotakesarin, qui renforce ainsi sa légitimité.
