Nous présentons ici deux types de tons, le "ton circonflexe double" et le "ton à inversion de contour", récemment découverts au cours d'enquêtes de terrain en Chine, et qui entrent en contraste avec le ton bas-descendant. Le ton circonflexe double présente une trajectoire mélodique descendante-montante- descendante comportant deux points d'inflexion, en termes perceptifs aussi bien qu'acoustiques. Le ton à inversion de contour possède un point de départ plus élevé et un point d'inflexion plus tardif que le ton bas-descendant ordinaire. Les 32 localités où ont été observées un ton circonflexe double sont distribuées sur les sept principales zones dialectales du chinois
