Teaching specialized translation requires a constant adjustment to take into account current labor market needs in order to train more competent translators. In view of this situation, EMT (European Master’s in Translation) expert group drew up a detailed list of competences seeking the mastery of knowledge, skills and attitudes required in professional translation practice. Based on this framework, we decided to conduct a quantitative descriptive study with professional freelance translators specialized in medicine. The objective of this study was to verify how these professional medical translators perceive their competences and the extent to which they consider these competences important to successfully carry out the translation task
