A number of myths have been created about Allan Ramsay “the Scottish Jacobite poet.” The oldest of these developed from the introductory “Life” to Chalmers’s edition of 1800 which indicates that the “hilarity” of the Easy Club, of which Ramsay had been a founding member, “was suppressed by the rebellion of 1715” (14).
