Abigail Caro et al., « Exploratory study with future primary school teachers on mathematical languages for teaching the area-volume relationship », HAL-SHS : sciences de l'éducation, ID : 10670/1.pb1yhn
This report presents a study on didactic, mathematical and linguistic aspects of the knowledge of a group of students for primary school teachers. Using data from responses to an individual questionnaire, the aforementioned aspects are analyzed using deductive methods of qualitative content analysis. From here, and using inductive methods of discourse analysis, I focus the second phase on linguistic aspects related to language use in teaching and learning the conceptual relation between area and volume. The results point to the ability of future teachers to identify pedagogically significant questions about vocabulary and grammar in the context of use, even though they have not received specific training in this regard. Given the limited representation of the pedagogical use of language to teach mathematics, I conclude that linguistic aspects must be incorporated, deliberately and sustainably, into higher education curricula of mathematics teaching.
