“I is another one”. The experience of bilingualism an of theatre to teach and to learn a language Based on a dual language and professional experience, this paper, between theory and practice, starts from the premise that the discovery of a second language reconvenes the early stages of the learning of a first language. Usually, the teaching of so-called “foreign languages” refers to the learner’s instinctive decoding of letters in relation to the assumed phonology acquired when he learnt to write his first language at school (Dehaene 2007). Our discussion will be based on the experience of bilingual authors (Kristof 2004 ; Makine 1995 ; Mizubayashi 2011) as well as our practice of drama. Learning another language is to be transported to the “pretend theatre” (Huston 1999). Starting from a definition of the body as an “articulating and driving vocal power” (Ryngaert 2002), we discuss the approach of the new language workshops that use theater techniques. The social dimension is inseparable from this approach (Bourdieu 1997 ; Detrez 2002), which must include the question of the teacher’s positioning (Bourdieu & Passeron 1965) and requires a definition of the proposed language standard (Lapeyre-Desmaison, Poulin & Roger 2011).
