Les fêtes maritimes en Bretagne : quand le territoire rencontre le patrimoine, une approche sociogéographique

La recherche questionne les rapports entre territoire et patrimoine au sein des fêtes du patrimoine maritime en Bretagne. Vecteurs d’une culture maritime, ces manifestations sont majoritairement l’émanation d’actions bénévoles, ancrées dans les territoires, où se mêlent d’une part marins amateurs et pratiquants passionnés de patrimoine maritime, et d’autre part public plus ou moins profane en quête de découverte. À partir de l’étude de 59 évènements et d’enquêtes quantitatives auprès de participants, la recherche montre que logique territoriale et dimension patrimoniale des fêtes traduisent deux rapports distincts dans le couple territoire-patrimoine. Nées d’un mouvement culturel patrimonial et communautaire, elles sont devenues l’expression d’enjeux territoriaux et identitaires, dépassant les traditions maritimes pour répondre au désir de mer et de littoral d’une part et à l’attachement déclaré pour le territoire d’accueil des fêtes d’autre part, dans un processus de distinction qui oppose marins et public. Pour les premiers, l’affirmation culturelle et la valorisation du patrimoine maritime priment sur les logiques d’identification territoriale. Pour les seconds, les logiques d’identification territoriale restent dominantes, leur ancrage local déterminant leurs représentations patrimoniales.

The research questions the relationship between territory and heritage within the maritime heritage festivals in Brittany. These events, which convey a maritime culture, are mainly the result of voluntary actions, anchored in the territories, where amateur sailors and maritime heritage enthusiasts on the one hand, and the more or less lay public in search of discovery on the other, mingle. Based on a study of 59 events and quantitative surveys of participants, the research shows that the territorial logic and heritage dimension of the festivals reflect two distinct relationships in the territory-heritage pair. Born from a cultural heritage and community movement, they have become the expression of territorial and identity issues, going beyond maritime traditions to respond to the desire for the sea and the coast on the one hand and to the declared attachment to the territory hosting the festivals on the other, in a process of distinction that opposes sailors and the public. For the former, cultural affirmation and the enhancement of maritime heritage take precedence over the logic of territorial identification. For the latter, the logic of territorial identification remains dominant, their local roots determining their heritage representations.
