In 1618, Jean Riolan sent a request to the King for the establishment of a Royal Garden in the University of Paris. This text, of which some very rare printed copies remain, was not followed by immediate effects. My paper aims to show how the initial project of plant anatomy became by the royal will an instrument to assert modernity against the medical faculty of Paris when in 1673 a free and public human anatomy course was entrusted to the surgeon Pierre Dionis (1643-1718) in the amphitheater of the Royal Garden, and what was this course.

En 1618, Jean Riolan adresse une requête au roi pour l’établissement d’un Jardin royal en l’université de Paris. Ce texte dont subsistent quelques rarissimes exemplaires imprimés ne fut pas suivi d’effets immédiats. Ma communication vise à montrer comment le projet initial de l’anatomie des plantes devint par la volonté royale un instrument visant à affirmer la modernité contre la faculté de médecine de Paris lorsqu’en 1673 un cours d’anatomie humaine gratuit et public fut confié au chirurgien Pierre Dionis (1643-1718) dans l’amphithéâtre du Jardin royal, et quel fut ce cours.
