Jörg Thunecke, « Exil en miniature Zu Robert Neumanns Roman In the Steps of Morell (1951) », Études Germaniques, ID : 10670/1.qb5ogg
In “Self Portrait Autumn 1941”, a sub-section of Chapter 2 (“The Pillar of Absalom”) of Robert Neumann’s novel In the Steps of Morell (1951), the everyday life of an exile in London at the height of the “Blitz” (Autum/Winter 1940) is described en miniature as experienced by German-speaking refugees, the main emphasis being the lack of integration into the host country (England), especially with regard to gainful employment.
