"Objective. To determine the prevalence of upper respiratorytract colonization by Moraxella catarrhalis in childrenunder six years of age. Material and methods. A surveywas conducted between January and December 1998 inMexico City, among children aged 2 months to 5 years, selectedthrough cluster sampling. Pharyngeal samples weretaken for M. catarrhalis identification. The minimal inhibitoryconcentration to different antibiotics was obtained and betalactamaseswere determined by the iodometric test.
