Without denying the theological reading of the play, we propose to see in it also a precursor of Spanish fantasy writing. Thus, the chapel where the drama unfolds appears, not only as the ultimate threshold in the life of the abuser, but also as a portal of stone and fire leading to another world, whose guardian is none other than the strange and disturbing statue of the Commander.
