Cécile Foussard, « Mer et navigation dans le monde andin préhispanique », HAL-SHS : archéologie, ID : 10670/1.quiuql
In the Prehispanic Andean world, the Pacific Ocean wasn’t an impassable frontier but a place with economic resources and transport posibilities. In the Humboldt Current ecosystem, the proliferation of marine resources was sufficient enough for the subsistence of coastal communities since the period of the first settlements. In this context of maritime adaptation, Andean coastal populations invented diversified watercraft technology, that is documented by archaeological and ethnohistorical data.
