La présente contribution se propose d’étudier la polarité des affects, entendue comme leur caractère positif vs négatif, à partir de la combinatoire lexicale dans de grands corpus électroniques d’une sélection de noms d’affect diversifiés du point de vue de leur polarité, à savoir joie, déception, surprise, nostalgie, admiration, mépris et leurs équivalents allemands et anglais. L’analyse distingue le marquage explicite et le marquage implicite de la polarité. Deux types de polarité explicite sont repérés : la polarité dite « standard » concerne avant tout les noms d’affect réactifs et évalue l’affect comme étant agréable ou désagréable pour l’expérienceur ; la polarité dite « axiologique », plutôt caractéristique des noms d’affect impersonnels, juge l’affect comme étant approprié ou non. Le marquage implicite est surtout propre aux noms ne comportant pas d’évaluation apparente comme surprise ou nostalgie, et indique une tendance négative.
